Lat. daps; Gr. δαπάνη; the Greek word is analogous to sóa, which means to sacrifice and then to waste]:—a sacrifice, = Lat. victima, hostia, but only in a heathen sense, and obsolete; heilagt tafn, the holy sacrifice, Hd.; Gauts tafn, the victims of Odin, i. e. the slain, who in the heathen creed were an offering to Odin, the god of victory, Landn. (in a verse).
